The series The Combis began when Lewis Davidson started noticing on a daily basis small scraps of plastic on the pavement and the road. En route to other places he began collecting these little pieces. They are parts snapped off from products, litter cast aside at the end of its lifespan, no longer of value or purpose. Davidson was drawn to the mystery of their individual histories, and the potential they held to be reimagined and transformed.
Through the process of assemblage Davidson joins the different found parts together. Toying with form and colour, Lewis playfully reinterprets the unwanted and undervalued elements of our consumerist culture. What was once a buckled bottle cap or cut zip tie is given new life and takes on a different meaning and sense of place within the world.
